really old furniture

when i started on this project, i thought it was a garage sale find from my childhood. 'cause you see, it was mine (notice the batman sticker on one of the drawer fronts ... i was SO into batman) and we brought it on over in the POD. then after i painted it i emailed my mom a pic and said, "whadya think?" and she said something like, "cute! i'll see what grandma thinks!"

and i was like, "what?"

"why would grandma care?"

"oh she's the one that bought it for me and [my sister] when we were little girls."

(silence as i swallow down a gulp)

then i let it sink in.

really slowly.

i just painted a dresser from the 50s!?!? it was my mom's?!?! and it's in my house?!?!

i'm so incredibly into vintage modern decor and i had NO IDEA how incredibly awesome and truly vintage (and in the family!!) this dresser was.

i was pretty pumped.

and man i'm SO glad i didn't know how old it was before hand or i would have been freaking out about messing it up.

so without further ado...

ps. mom, i'm not saying you're old.

50+ yr old furniture = antique. vintage. etc.

50+ yr. old humans = well seasoned. like a good wine or something.

except i don't drink wine.

this is halloween

2 trunk or treats, a camping extravaganza, and a night of trick-or-treating along Moana Street,

that pretty much sums it up.

i threw the girls' costumes together crazy last minute. we found out our old ward's trunk or treat was in a couple hours so botta-bing, botta-boom, a clock and a ballerina.

friday night we camped at ho'omaluhia botanical gardens and it ROCKED!! i seriously love nature. i'm having a bit of writer's block so i can't really explain to you how i love nature, so let's just say when i drove into the gardens i started crying because it was THAT beautiful. and God made it. and He didn't have to make it pretty, just functional. but He did make it pretty.

and the was pretty much the weekend. except for in sacrament when gwen dumped her goldfish crackers down the crack in the pew.

and the huge cane spider in the miller's tent saturday morning.

and how gwen and i went on a date saturday afternoon before trick-or treating and she picked-out, opened, and started eating a whatchamacalit before i even knew what had happened.

or how our garden started growing more mushrooms than anything else.

but you got the gist of it.

we're talking mattresses here.

we have one of those european beds (read: ikea)and need to get a mattress this weekend. no box spring, just a mattress. we're definitely not mattress experts, basically have absolutely no idea what the difference is between assorted mattresses.

enter: you. i'm sure one of y'all out there has an educated opinion on the matter. should we go with a euro top mattress or a memory foam mattress??
